things that make me happy
A few stanzas with 20 years of little things that bring me joy and refuge.
To define what makes me happy,
I walk back along my path,
To times when happy
Was the only food I'd lack.
When I seven years old,
My diary was filled,
Of things that made my eyes happy.
TV shows and books were the shield
That kept my heart from turning cold.
But by seventeen, it wasn't enough,
My eyes would close, seeking a different frame of mind.
Songs of the broken-hearted played while I plead
For the Father of faces to be ever so kind
On His promise to make everything new, include me.
Twenty-seven came with the same quest,
But now more things bring my soul content.
The warm sunlight greeting the morning,
The look of love, slowly healing,
Salty waves that kiss the shore,
Sunday lunches of open heart and door,
These fleeting gifts for times of need,
Remind me that God looks down.
Despite the universe He maintains,
His days include moments just for me.
